TERESE'S HOUSE

There is something comforting about walking into a very close friends house. It's like putting on your favourite pair of slippers.

You know the smell like you know your own home

You know where the wine glasses and bottle opener live

You know that the front door sticks and you have to wiggle the key

You automatically fold her washing while she makes the coffee

You can pinch her husband's bum and not cause offense

You can use her Chanel No 5 and she will tell you it suits you

Thank god for the familiarity of friends, and the comfort of   knowing you can walk through the door and know you will always    have a place at their table.

To my two BF's. Here's to us.

THE BEAUTY OF THE BIRCH

Not until moving to Melbourne had I given any thought to the Silver Birch Tree. So upon moving into a street called Birch St on our arrival, and having them planted at the park across from our house. So began my love affair with this ghostly spectre like tree.

Did you know that in parts of Germany, young men erect decorated birch trees in front of the houses of love interests on the night of May 1st, to show their feelings.
